"Accounting Nightmare"

Kemder, 1977, 14' x 11"

Although very small, this work packs a powerful punch. Witness the frenzied look of the large green blob as he tries to avoid being overwhelmed by calculators, register tape, and a sea of red ink. I am still unclear as to the meaning of the small figure on the right which looks like a cherry. I'm sure that there must be other similar paintings done by Kemder for doctors, lawyers, nurses, engineers, teachers, etc. These were probably sold at small art and/or craft fairs during the Seventies. You see a lot of this type of work these days catering to almost every occupation, but none that I have come across are as strange as this piece. I would really like to see some of the artist's other works which surely exist elsewhere, but alas; for now I have only this small masterpiece to judge Mr. Kemder's place in history by.
