The anonymity of the blank canvas at the "artist's" fingertips is mirrored by the anonymous nature of the piece itself, as no signature or date are present to give us a clue as to the identity of the real artist behind this work. Most obviously a self-portrait, one can only wonder about the relaxed stance, right hand gently tucked mysteriously into pocket, when the artist is faced with such an intimidating white void on the canvas in front of him.
