"Small Boy with Tulips"

March 1971, 36" x 26"

My second favorite painting in the collection. The expression on the child's face sends shivers up and down my spine. I dragged this painting all the way back to Chicago from Houston, Texas crammed in the backseat of my dearly departed '73 Riviera. The only way it would fit in the back seat was standing upright obstructing the sightline of my rearview mirror. This gave me more than a few hours to reflect upon the work and it must have made some sort of subconcious impression on my visual psyche, as I find the painting irresistable. The lone figure of the boy reminds me of my favorite work in Jim Shaw's collection, "Maid Sprays Kids on Second Floor with Hose".
