"The Clay Demon"

15" x 29"

This powerful piece depicts another variation on the age-old theme of good versus evil. A green demon (Jealousy? Addiction?) grimaces atop the shoulders of a hunched figure, strangling the last breath from his victim's body. As the figure slumps to the floor overpowered by the demon's chokehold and resigned to defeat, chaos reigns below. The artist has very effectively avoided slipping into cliche in his use of color and texture to convey the torments of the fires of Hell below. It appears as if an airbrush was used in the creation of portions of this work, giving it an ethereal and unworldly quality. I did have to pay a bit more than usual for this painting, but I was immediately taken in by the deceptive nature of the piece. Despite the bright and pleasant colors, something very sinister appears to be occuring here.
